"… if the word music is sacred and reserved for eighteenthand nineteenth-century instruments, we can substitute a more meaningful term:organisation of sound."
John Cage, The future of music: Credo
If it is one of the substantial matters for a contemporary composer, to determine how to organise sound beyond the classical discipline of music, it would be one of the casual ideas in digital era, to employ computational algorithms.
The series of experiments starts from the application of biomimicry algorithm as a self-organising system to be the solver to organise sound and consequentially the musical performer.
The dynamics of swarm, emerging from the interaction of individual agents adhering a set of simple rules, create differentiated visual patterns as well as equivalent output as signals of sound.
In this specific installation, which is intended for the present occasion, the set of artificial agents extracts color values from the exhibited drawings to define the frequencies of sound waves, by which the installation “speculates” hidden aspect of the displayed images.
“Music is as immediate an objectification and copy of the whole will as the world itself is, indeed as the ideas are, the multiplied phenomenon of which constitutes the world of individual things. Therefore music is by no means like the other arts, namely a copy of the Ideas, but a copy of the will itself, the objectivity of which are the Ideas.”
Arthur Schopenhauer, The world as will and representation
